Other approaches, including different stem cell types and delivery methods (such as intratympanic injections), are also being studied globally. Some research explores supporting the body’s own repair mechanisms or combining cells with gene therapies.

Important Limitations and Cautions

Experts consistently emphasize that these treatments are experimental. Key challenges include:

  • Ensuring cells survive, integrate properly, and function long-term without adverse effects.
  • Addressing variability based on the cause and duration of hearing loss.
  • Demonstrating meaningful improvements in real-world hearing beyond safety data.
